One great feature of WordPress is the ability to use plugins as well as the nice collection of them available. One of the first plugins you will want to enable is Akismet, it comes with the WordPress install. Just go to “Plugins” and then “Activate” it. Next you will need to enter a key, get this from WordPress.com by registering for a free account.

This plugin will send each comment to the Akismet server to decide if it is spam or not before posting it to your comments. It’s worked really well for me in keeping spam out of the comments.
