ComicPress 2.1 Development

News: Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I’ve created a thread in the forum outlining all the proposed updates and changes for the next version of ComicPress (2.1). You will be able to read them over and see their progress as well as suggest new features or changes at the following link:

Version 2.1 Development: To-Do List

ComicPress 2.0 was a pretty strong theme release but there are just some little changes and updates that I’d like to make to it still sticking to it’s overall structure and design. If you are running a fully customized version of 2.0, you will be able to update it by making the individual changes listed. Each change will have information on modifying your theme to make the change. Or you can always start fresh with the 2.1 theme when it is released and re-modify it.

Once 2.1 is complete I’ll make some variations such as a tall-comic layout and a wide 3-column layout as well as updating the CE version to 2.1.

Read the list of changes to be made on the forum. WOW! Everytime I think this is better than sliced bread… you go and throw some jelly on it! Coooool!

Glad to hear your going to make a 3-column layout as well. I have been modifing my layout on a copy I run locally on my mac. That is the only thing that is driving me batty.

Thanks for al the dedication to this theme. Your time on it is VERY appreicated.

Wow, this sounds great! Only now I’m not sure it I should keep working on my website with the current theme, or wait for the new update. I’ve kind of got it mostly set up. Of course, I’ve been too busy to work much on it anyway, so maybe it’ll work out.

I’d really like to see the tall-comic layout, as my comic is tall and doesn’t quite fit.

Let me just chime in and second that comment about this being VERY appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work! The 2.0 release was pretty great as it was.

Just found this setup a couple weeks ago…I’d go so far to say I’m in love with it (or at least heavily infatuated)

I do have a suggestion (and hopefully I won’t sound like an idiot because this is already a feature and I just haven’t found it yet…) What I’d like to see is some way for viewers to be able to see like a weeks worth of comics all stacked on a single page at full size… We were talking over in the toontalk forums about how some people really like to read a bunch of strips at once without clicking forward and back all the time. I figured this is something I could always do on saturdays just by posting the strips from the week in a larger file, but I thought it might be cool if there were a button that a reader could click and have a set number of previous strips up to and including the current day all appear on a single page.

Just a suggestion. Love the setup, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the suggestion Jim, love your comic.

I’ll add that as a possible inclusion in the next version over in the forum. It would be easy to do a page template to show the last 5 or so comics like that but reading through the entire archives like that will pose a little extra challenge.

Thanks Tyler, My comic is definitely helped by this great theme you have… I recommend it to everyone who mentions wanting to start their own comic, especially those who are already creating comics but hosting them on some of the other free sites (and sherpa). I don’t think I’ve seen a setup that can beat this one.

    Can’t wait for 2.1

Tyler, I gotta say I’m incredibly pleased with 2.0 so far, and 2.1 sounds pretty cool, especially widget support. Keep up the good work. :D

Hi! Not to be obnoxious, but I was considering upgrading to 2.0 BE when I saw that you were planning to release 2.1. I’d like to hold up on the overhaul until I can go ahead and customize 2.1, instead of making all my changes to 2.0 and then having to add in all the 2.1 stuff later (or do a second customization from scratch). Any chance you’ll have 2.1 out before October?

i was wondering if i can still use the update or further updates after i rigged the comicpress theme heavily. i mean no backend, just arrangement front end and a lot of visual stuff.

the rigged comicpress is found http://thetikoyplate.com/ , i guess i can still use it if you’ll document the changes, it will certainly help a lot to have documentation.

I just want to say that I’m loving this theme. It’s nice to have a high-quality comics theme that’s more or less ready to go right out of the box. I’m looking forward to seeing what future versions have to offer. :)

I just want to thank you for your work on this project. This is exactly what I was looking for when I started my webcomic a year ago. Once I discovered your theme, I converted over and didn’t look back!
