Next ComicPress Version Around the Corner…
News: Thursday, April 10th, 2008
In case you’ve been holding off on trying out ComicPress, or not doing too much customizing until the next version, a good opportunity is right around the corner. It is with great excitement I announce the development of the next version of ComicPress has kicked into the fast track, thanks in part to a generous sponsor.
I’m looking to release version 2.5 (to go hand-in-hand with the new WordPress) within the next week or two. The main features of the new WordPress 2.5 are mainly behind the curtain, the administration area, the only really new visible exterior feature are comment ComicPress will also have a lot going on behind the curtain, as I am rewriting the entire theme from the ground up, breaking down the CSS into the simplest most indestructible format possible to make it easier for you to customize the layout. Gravatars, which the new ComicPress will support (although it’s a simple bit of code to update your existing theme to use them).
To make it harder for you to break it. I want the theme of the release to be, “so easy a caveman can do it”. I want to one day feature a ComicPress site created by a caveman, I know there are cavemen out there right now with a comic in the back of their mind that have been wanting to get it on the web…
Of probably most importance to you though, will be the option of multiple formats including both a tall layout, and the much loved 3-column. Again, with simple and solid layout for you to easily customize with just a little CSS skill. I’ll probably release a preview in the forum for some of you early birds to try out while I am putting together the documentation.

groovyhickle. while you’re at it, add some to wally and osborne, even if it’s just a blog.

Great to hear we’ll be able to switch back and forth between the single and triple column.
Can I make a suggestion: Is there a way to possibly code into the wp-admin set up so if you want the full comic or just a new comic icon in the rss feed it’s just a click of a button and an address line? I know you can do it in the link function coding, but I think it’d be easier accessible if it was a check box on the admin.

That’s great news. I was really excited to discover this because I’ve been using a standard Wordpress theme for my comic. I searched for something and just failed to discover Comicpress. It probably would have saved me a lot of headaches. I was just now trying to customize it so I can switch over and was having a bit of trouble figuring some things out so I’ll probably wait a little while for the update and just continue with my current theme for now. Great stuph! Kudos to you.

Thanks for posting on this. I haven’t been using wordpress but I am a cartoonist and am always interested in ways to present my work.

That is good to hear. I have been putting off updating my site and it sounds like my procrastination is about to pay off

Bleh, I’m already modifying version 2.1 so this isn’t the best of news to me.
Guess I’ll only upgrade comicpress on version 3.0 now

Excellent. I just got my site going but what the heck. My newly acquired skills will still be fresh.

Most excellent news, thanks for the new update!

That sounds exciting! I guess I can upgrade my wordpress and comicpress at the same time for even more loaded updating fun.
Thank-you so much!

[...] Something I’ve been waiting to do for quite a while is upgrade the ComicPress theme to 2.1, but I wanted to wait until WordPress 2.5 came out so I can do one massive update. The update went quite painlessly. There was on plugin I had to re-install, but there’s quite a few new features in WP 2.5 that allowed me forgo other plugins, like the gallery functions. WP 2.5 rocks, if just for the updated interface of the Dashboard alone. I’m writing this post now using the toggled full-screen mode and it really takes away from a lot of the distraction, allowing me to just write. It feels like I’m just typing away on a word processor. Of course, ComicPress had to announce that a new version is just about to be released.. [...]

Now I’m really anxious. My site needs this badly!

Include the option to put navigation on the top and bottom of my tall webcomic and I’ll be ecstatic.

Reconstruction…
Note: This site will be undergoing reconstruction to make it easier to read and to make it a bit more aesthetically appealing. I am eagerly awaiting the release of ComicPress 2.5. I guess I’ll be one of the guinea pigs to try it out. I ha…

I’m new to the comics game, but last month a comic I drew in highschool 14 years ago brought 30,000 visits to my site, so I thought I’d get in the game.
Anyway, I want to try out comic press for the first time, but figure I should wait for 2.5, and I’ll admit I’m getting rather anxious waiting for it. I wonder if there’s a better way than making people visit the website every day or two… like, perhaps a mailing list for notification that it’s complete. My contact info is on my website should you choose to do so.
And thanks for your hard work on this.

If you need anyone to try out the new version, I’d love to!
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:02 am
I’d be willing to beta test as well.
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:13 am
I think the beta is bound to be better than the non-comic theme I’m using right now. This is pathetic. I’m checking this site every day now. Brilliant marketing for web traffic, my friend.
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:00 am
Working on the release right now. I’ll be posting an early release of it in the forum per usual for those that want to help test it out while I put together documentation and stuff. Hopefully within the next few days or so.
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Oh, just to be clear, I wasn’t calling you pathetic. I was calling myself pathetic for checking every day. I’m using the delay as an excuse to procrastinate improving my site.

Sweet, I am looking forward to the new version. I love the comicpress theme, makes things awesome.
